Census of Ireland for 1881
The 1881 census was taken on 31 March 1881 and filled out by the householders themselves.
The government recognised in the 1881 and 1891 census the importance and value that retaining the census was for future examination. Unfortunately, during WWI the supply of paper depleted to critical levels and the government pulped both census returns completely. No transcribes exist only summaries of the returns.
