Census of Ireland 1861

The 1861 census was taken on 7 April 1861 and filled out by the householders themselves.

All of the original census returns for 1861 and 1871 were intentionally destroyed by the government after each census. Only statistical information about the Irish population was taken. The only surviving census record for 1861 is a transcription for the Roman Catholic parish of Enniscorthy, Co. Wexford. (microfilm available in the National Library of Ireland)
